Greg Skehan is a partner in the Disputes and Investigations team. Greg began his professional career as a construction lawyer. Subsequently he moved into the insurance area with a diverse practice across all areas of insurance. This includes construction risk, professional indemnity, directors & officers liability, accident, health, products, property and reinsurance. He is extremely experienced in all forms of commercial negotiation, litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

Under Greg's leadership the Insurance Group of Colin Biggers & Paisley in Sydney was awarded the ALB Mettle Insurance Specialist Law Firm of the Year Award for 2008. Further, with Greg as senior partner, Colin Biggers & Paisley advise many of Australia's largest corporations and government departments in all matters involving property development, construction, infrastructure and the insurance requirements.

Some of Greg's work includes:

PPP Trains: advising on liability and insurance cover in respect of a variety of matters including rolling stock, maintenance and related facilities.

Stadium roof collapse: advising on insurance cover in respect of a major sports stadium roof collapse including with respect to policy cover, dual insurance and recovery.

Western Australia and Queensland Highway Projects: advising on liability and insurance cover in respect of design and construct issues for major highway projects in Western Australia and Queensland.

Desalination Plant: advising on a variety of insurance cover responses on a major desalination plant.

Asian and Middle East Projects: advising in relation to a number of construction projects including contractual aspects, liability aspects and insurance coverage. Projects included:

  • Hurricane damage to a railway in the Philippines
  • Damage to an offshore oil rig in Singapore
  • Fire damage to an oil refinery in Thailand
  • High rise building projects in Singapore and Bangkok
  • A highway/bridge contract in Laos
  • Hotel design and construct contract in Doha
  • Engineering design of University buildings in Abu Dhabi
  • Design and construct obligations in relation to high rise buildings in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Bahrain
  • Highway construction in Bahrain
Greg returned to Sydney in October 2009, having spent the prior 18 months running the legal practice's associated offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Since returning from the UAE, Greg's time has been spent advising a variety of clients on risk management, corporate governance, due diligence and a variety of commercial dealings. He is on the board of a number of corporations and a board adviser to others.

Greg became partner at the legal practice in 1979 and senior partner in 2000.

Greg was listed for insurance in the 2013 - 2023 editions of Best Lawyers in Australia; class action litigation in the 2018 - 2023 editions and in 2020-2023 he was recognised for construction and infrastructure law. He was recommended in insurance by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2016, and is listed in the 2013 - 2023 editions of Chambers and Partners as a leading individual in insurance. In 2015-2016 and 2018-2022, Doyle's Guide listed Greg as a leading Sydney professional indemnity lawyer and in 2016, Who's Who Legal listed him as a leading insurance and reinsurance lawyer. Greg is also listed in the 2016 and 2018 ExpertGuides for insurance and reinsurance.
