Philip Atkin is a partner in Colin Biggers & Paisley's insurance practice. He has significant experience in the defence of claims against a wide range of professionals including solicitors, construction professionals, real estate agents, mortgage and insurance brokers and financial services professionals. He has particular expertise in claims against solicitors and construction professionals.
Philip's construction insurance experience includes acting for professional indemnity insurers, D&C contractors and other builders, engineers, architects, building owners and property developers in significant building and construction disputes. He also acts in building industry workplace health and safety prosecutions and matters before building compliance and disciplinary boards.
Philip regularly acts as coverage counsel in complex professional indemnity and project and infrastructure claims. He has also acted as coverage counsel for excess layer insurers in class actions against solicitors and construction professionals.
Philip has had the conduct of large, multi-party disputes throughout Australia. He regularly appears in person for clients in private mediations and in court ordered alternative dispute resolution settings and achieves excellent results.
Philip is listed in the 2022 and 2023 editions of
Best Lawyers in Australia
for insurance law.
Philip has a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees, as well as a Master of Conflict Resolution, Law. He was admitted to practice in 2009.
